Helpful tips on the software program...

Scanning an Image into Adobe Photoshop and Paint Shop Pro

To scan your color photos, text/lineart, web images or printed matter, follow the procedures below:

1. Open Adobe Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro.

2. In Adobe Photoshop, go to File Import TWAIN_32 In Paint Shop Pro, go to File Import TWAIN Acquire

3. Make sure that you are in the "Advanced" mode, which is what is shown above. The first thing you should do at this point is to do a preview scan which is done by pushing the preview button. One the preview is completed, you will see a rough scan appear to the left. At this point, what you want to do is to use the frame tool () to select the area you want to scan. Go over the following settings, found at the upper-right hand portion of the VistaScan window:

4. Scan method: unless you're scanning transparencies, leave it on Reflective (the default).

5. Colors: a number of presets are included but if you don't know which one to use, just select True Color RGB and use Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro to modify the number of colors later.

6. Resolution: if you want to scan an image for use on the web, set this to 75 dpi. If you want to print out the image at a later point in time, you'll want to use 150 dpi or 300 dpi depending on how much accuracy you need.

7. Descreen: select the type of descreening that is appropriate for the type of paper you are scanning: art print, newspaper, or magazine. When in doubt, just leave this setting off (no descreen).

8. Set filter: don't worry about this. If you are going to use Photohop or Paint Shop Pro, you probably won't ever have to worry about this so just make sure its set to No filter.

9. Zoom: set it to 100% unless you want otherwise.

Push the Scan button. Depending on the size of the selected area to scan and the resolution you chose and the amount of zoom you requested, this could take a while so be patient. The area you selected to scan will now be open in Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro. You may now scan another image from VistaScan or exit to Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro and begin working on your image.
